Four-goal third period sends Kensington Wild to third straight win

KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild scored four goals in the third period to continue a recent hot stretch in the New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League on Saturday night.

The Wild doubled the Fredericton Caps 6-3 to earn their third win a row and sixth in eight games to improve to 16-7-2 (won-lost-overtime losses). The Caps fell to 13-13-0 and are eight points back of the Wild in the race for second place in the six-team league.
At Credit Union Centre in Kensington, the Wild and Caps were tied 1-1 after the first and 2-2 at the end of 40 minutes.
Donovan Arsenault’s goal 2:22 into the third period gave the Wild a 4-2 lead and proved to be the game-winner.
Alex Graham led the Wild with two goals and an assist while Landon Clow (1-1), Sam MacNeill (1-1) and Duncan Picketts (1-1), with his first goal of the 2019-20 season, rounded out the scoring. Matt McQuaid (2), Arsenault, Isaac Vos, Reid Vos, Seth MacLeod, Kieran Rennie and Austin Arsenault were credited with assists.
Andrew Gweon (2) and Cody Gilbert countered for the Caps.
Overall, the Wild outshot the Caps 34-31. Jonah Arbing turned in a strong performance in winning his eighth straight start for the Wild. Blake Green was the goaltender of record for Fredericton.
The Wild was assessed three minor penalties and one double minor for head contact. Fredericton received one minor and one double minor for head contact.

Next action for the Wild will be in the Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam tournament in Halifax, N.S., this week. The Wild’s opening game against the Halifax Macs is Wednesday at 7 p.m. That game will be televised live on EastLink TV.
