KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — It’s an opportunity for the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild to widen the gap on the Fredericton Caps.
The two teams will meet in a New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League game at Kensington Credit Union Centre on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The Wild, who is 15-7-2 (won-lost-overtime losses), holds a six-point lead over the Caps (13-12-0) in the battle for second place in the six-team league. The teams have split their first four regular-season meetings.
Kensington is coming off a busy week in which the team won three of four games over six days to open up a little breathing room over the Caps. One of those victories was a 6-3 win over the Caps in the New Brunswick capital on Dec. 29.
Saturday’s game will mark the Wild’s last home game until Saturday, Jan. 18. The Wild will be participating in the Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam tournament next week in Halifax, N.S.
The Wild will be without veteran forward and assistant captain Dixon MacLeod on Saturday. MacLeod will begin serving a three-game suspension for fighting in the last 10 minutes of a game in the Wild’s 8-3 road win over the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights on New Year’s Eve.
