Two teams quite familiar with one another will decide the major midget champion at the 2019 Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam hockey tournament on Sunday afternoon.
The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild and Moncton Flyers will meet in an all-New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League battle at 2 p.m., after both teams posted semifinal wins Sunday morning. The Wild defeated the Cape Breton West Islanders 4-1 while the Flyers pulled out a 2-1 overtime decision over the Saint John Vitos.

The Flyers sit first in league play at 22-2-1 (won-lost-overtime losses), and the Wild is two points back at 21-5-1. Just how evenly-matched are the Wild and Flyers?
The teams have split six regular-season meetings, with each team posting an overtime win and Kensington scored in the final minute of regulation time for a 2-1 win in another game. The Wild edged the Flyers in overtime in the quarter-finals en route to winning the Monctonian AAA Challenge in November.

Against the Islanders, Bennett MacArthur (1-1), Duncan Picketts (1-1), Zac Arsenault (1-1) and Keiran Gallant scored for the Wild. Isaac Wilson (2), Colby MacArthur and Kalib Snow contributed assists.
Chad Arsenault continued his strong play between the pipes for the Wild. Arsenault, who is 5-0-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) in this year’s Ice Jam, has allowed just four goals in the five games.
