AMHERST, N.S. — The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals opened the 2019-20 Maritime Junior Hockey League regular season with a convincing win Saturday night.

Rookie Bennett MacArthur and veteran Kallum Muirhead each scored twice while Dominik Tmej, who set a league record with seven shutouts in the 2018-19 campaign, stopped all 26 shots he faced in leading the Caps to a 4-0 road victory over the Amherst Ramblers.
It was the first of five straight road games for the Capitals, who will not host their home opener until Saturday, Sept. 28, when the Yarmouth Mariners visit Eastlink Arena for a 7 p.m. faceoff
Before 850 fans at the Amherst Stadium, rookie Colby MacArthur chipped in with three assists for the Caps while single helpers went to Brodie MacArthur, Jacob Arsenault, Marc-Andre LeCouffe and Gianluca Fuoco.
Summerside led 1-0 after the opening period and increased that margin to 3-0 following 40 minutes.
Joel Gagnon stopped 33 of 37 shots between the pipes for Amherst.
The Caps went 0-for-4 on the power play while Amherst failed to score on a pair of man advantages.
The game’s three stars were:
1. Kallum Muirhead (Caps), 2. Bennett MacArthur (Caps), 3. Max Boudreau (Ramblers).
The Caps return to action on Friday in Edmundston, N.B., against the Blizzard at 7:30 p.m. The Caps then visit the Fredericton Red Wings, formerly the St. Stephen Aces, on Saturday at 7 p.m., and close out a stretch of three games in three days at the Grand Falls Rapids on Sunday at 3 p.m.
