CHARLOTTETOWN – There is a strong Prince County presence on P.E.I.’s female hockey team for the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
A total of 10 players – two goaltenders, one blue-liner and seven forwards – from the western part of the province were part of the team announced by Hockey P.E.I. on Thursday. The 20-player roster consists of two goaltenders, six blue-liners and 12 forwards.
“After an extensive process, we are pleased to make our final selections for Team P.E.I., and now turn our focus to the Canada Games tournament in Red Deer in February,” said P.E.I. head coach Chris Harkness in a Hockey P.E.I. media release. “The players and staff are excited about the opportunity, and look forward to a great event.”
Female hockey will be part of Week 2 – Feb. 24 to March 2 – in Red Deer, Alta. P.E.I. will compete in a pool with Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories and Yukon.
The selection process began in 2016 through a variety of camps and events. The team’s final selections were made after the recent Atlantic Challenge Cup in Moncton, N.B.
