PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – Team Canada is scheduled to meet New Zealand in a much-anticipated showdown at the WBSC junior men’s world softball championship late Tuesday night.
Both teams took perfect 3-0 (won-lost) records into the first-place battle in Group B.
Canada remained perfect with a 7-0 win over Guatemala in five innings late Monday night. Jordan Pomeroy of Placentia, N.L., connected for a solo home run in the third inning, and a grand slam in the fourth. Cole Pavey earned the pitching win.

Also on Monday, New Zealand defeated the Czech Republic 8-1.
Outfielder Dawson Sellick of Tignish is a member of Team Canada, which also has two Prince Edward Islanders on its coaching staff – head coach and Dock resident Jeff Ellsworth and assistant coach Mark Quinn of Cardigan.
