We’ve been on the wrong side of the jet stream for a while and that’s not going to change until midweek next week.
In the meantime, the weather systems continue to track offshore, pulling in cold air and late-season snow. With the Mother's Day weekend here, we'd all like - and should expect - a little more heat but, I hesitate to say, things will be going the other way.
A powerful spring storm that developed over the state of Texas is starting to track eastward. Rain from that system will move into the western corner of the maritime Provinces very late tonight, reaching Newfoundland early Sunday morning.
Initially, this will be a windy and wet weather maker. The strong southeast wind ahead of the system will shift to the west behind the low and gust to 70 km/h. That wind direction change will bring about some snow in the wake of the low. There's sunshine in store for the early part of the week but a cold west wind will keep our daytime temperatures well below seasonal values until the end of the week.
