We’re heading into one of the busiest travel weekends of the year and overall, it looks like Mother Nature is going to cooperate.
A counter-clockwise spin around a slow-moving, low-pressure system over the Labrador Sea is serving up a cold northwest wind today. Feel-like temperatures will range from -6 C to -10 C through the afternoon; where the dry wind blows onshore, watch for localized snow squalls.
That wind will swing around to the south during the weekend ahead of a fast-moving weather maker.
There’s not a lot of energy with this one so snowfall accumulations should remain below five cm., Sunday night to Monday morning. There’s some mild air coming in with this system, so a mix of wet snow and rain showers is not out of the question.
Monday’s high temperatures will be slightly above freezing to just below in Newfoundland. Another wind shift to the northwest will bring colder weather on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
