Atlantic Canada is a very large geographic region, and we are still seven sleeps away from Christmas Day, so it’s going to be tricky to answer the question: yes or no to a white Christmas?

Earlier in the week, there was quite a snowstorm in Newfoundland; more than 30 cm of new snow fell over western regions of the island. That’s likely going to stick!

The nor’easter that raced off our coastline on Thursday left a blanket of white in its wake, at least in some parts of our region; that might not last. Temperatures for the final weekend before Christmas are going to be near normal but I see quite a warm-up on the way early in the week; daytime high temperature could reach the upper single digits on Tuesday.

If that doesn’t take care of the snow, the rain that will accompany those mild temperatures probably will; we could get 15 to 20 mm of rain on the leading edge of a soggy Christmas Eve system.

Perhaps a little Christmas magic will pull some colder air in behind Santa’s sleigh and bring some cosmetic snow on Christmas Day!
