CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Soccer players Danielle Younker and Mohammad Jaber are the UPEI Panthers Subway athletes of the week.
Younker is a fifth-year centre back and a science student from Charlottetown. She was named the defensive player of the game for the Panthers in a 2-0 loss to Acadia.
“Danielle stepped up to defend corner after corner with her head,” said coach Glen Miller. “She was strong in tackling the opposition and coming out with the ball in the one-on-one battles, and she connected her passes on a consistent basis in transition to offence.”
The Panthers lost 4-1 at UNB on Sunday to fall to 0-4.
Jaber is a fourth-year striker and a science student from Halifax. Jaber scored UPEI’s first goal of the season in the Panthers’ 2-1 win against Acadia.
“Moe was excellent against Acadia, scoring a goal and assisting on the game-winner,” said coach Lewis Page. “In the (3-0) road loss to UNB, he led the attack and was a constant threat with his pace and power.”
UPEI is 1-3.
