SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Western Wind has advanced to the championship series in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League.
The Wind defeated the Kings County Kings 8-1 and 7-2 over the weekend to complete a three-game sweep in the best-of-five semifinal series. The Summerside-based Wind will now face the winner of the Central Storm-Mid-Isle Wildcats’ semifinal series. The teams were tied 1-1 going into Sunday’s Game 3 in Charlottetown.

In Summerside on Sunday night, Tianna Gallant scored three goals and assisted on another to pace the Wind in the series-clinching victory. Hilarie Gaudet (2), Paige Deighan and Josee Gallant also scored for Western while assists went to Gracyn Handrahan (2), Brianna McCardle (2), Kyrsten Coyle and Kylie Campbell.
Airika Pollard and Kyara Somers netted unassisted goals for the Kings.
The Wind held period leads of 3-1 and 4-1.
Talynn Banks earned the goaltending decision.

In Montague on Saturday evening, Deighan (2-2) registered four points to spark the Wild offence. Emma Dyer (2), Gaudet (1-2), Handrahan (1-1), Macy Hackett (1-1) and Tianna Gallant also contributed goals. McCardle, Cailin Gaudet, Meredith Rogers and Josee Gallant were credited with helpers.
Gabrielle MacDonald, assisted by Jayda Gordon, countered for the Kings.
The period scores were 3-1 and 4-1 in favour of Western.
Winning goaltender was Danielle Gallant.
