SUMMERSIDE – The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild history-making performance at the CCM Midget AAA Challenge tournament in Chicoutimi, Que., came to an end on Saturday.
The Wild lost 7-3 to the Levis Chevaliers, who have yet to lose a game this season, in a quarter-final game. The Wild, who won the 2018 Monctonian AAA Challenge tournament in Moncton, N.B., in November, went 2-1 (won-lost) in the round robin, and became the first-ever team from Atlantic Canada to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Quebec tournament.
Four goals in a 5:11 span in the last half of the opening period allowed the Chevaliers to open up a 5-0 lead. Levis took a 6-0 lead into the final frame, but the Wild refused to quit and scored three goals in the first 11:16 to cut the lead in half, before the winning team closed out the scoring at 13:27.

Keiran Gallant (1-1), Bennett MacArthur and Dixon MacLeod scored for the Wild. Ryan Richards and William Proud chipped in with single assists.
Wild starting goaltender Chad Arsenault gave up four goals on 12 shots in 13:30 of action. Josh Smith stopped 27 of 30 shots over the final 31:30 in relief.

First-place showdown
The Wild returns to action in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League on Wednesday, when the Moncton Flyers visit Credit Union Centre in Kensington for a much-anticipated first-place showdown in a make-up game at 8 p.m. Both teams have 35 points as the Flyers are 17-1-1 (won-lost-overtime losses) while the Wild is 17-2-1.

The two teams were tied 1-1 in the second period of a game on Dec. 1, when an unexpected power outage resulted in the suspension of play. The league ruled the game, which will take place Wednesday, will be replayed in its entirety.
