CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Hockey Hall of Fame will welcome six new members later this year.

The 2019 class includes Canadian women’s team star Hayley Wickenheiser, NHL defenceman Sergei Zubov, NHL centre Guy Carbonneau, Czechoslovakian centre Vaclav Nedomansky as well as builders Jerry York and Jim Rutherford.

Wickenheiser was part of four gold- and one silver-medal winning Canadian squads at the Olympics. She was named the MVP of the 2002 and 2006 Olympics and was Canada’s flag-bearer for the 2014 Olympics. She retired in 2017.

Zubov recorded 771 points in 1,068 NHL games with the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Dallas Stars. Carbonneau recorded 663 points in 1,318 games with the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues and Dallas. The two were teammates in Dallas from 1996-97 to 1999-2000.

Nedomansky, who is now a scout with the Vegas Golden Knights, is known as the first hockey player to defect to North America.

Rutherford is the Pittsburgh Penguins general manager while York is the Boston College head coach.

No first-year eligible NHL players were included in this year’s class. Murray Harbour’s Brad Richards and his longtime teammate Vincent Lecavalier were both eligible.

Induction weekend is Nov. 15-17 with the induction ceremony taking place Monday, Nov. 17.

Before Tuesday’s announcement there were 280 players, 109 builders as well as 16 referees/linesmen inducted into the hall.
