Westisle, Three Oaks Team One, Colonel Gray win opening games in Christmas Classic

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Colonel Gray Colonels, Westisle Wolverines and host Three Oaks Team One Axemen are off to winning starts in the 26th annual Christmas Classic basketball tournament

The Colonels edged the Bluefield Bobcats 63-60 in the tournament opener at Bluefield High School in Hampshire on Thursday evening. At Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside, the Wolverines defeated the Three Oaks Team Two Axemen 89-45 and the Team One Axemen topped Central Kings from Cambridge, N.S., by a 100-67 score.
A total of 12 teams from across the Maritimes are competing in the three-day senior boys’ tournament. Play resumes early Friday afternoon and continues through until the championship game on Saturday at 1:45 p.m.

Sahib Singh poured in 15 points while Spencer Rossiter sank 13 to lead the Axemen. Vlersim Musliu and Justin Caron each contributed 12 points to the Axemen offence.
David McLean and Lance Keddy each scored 19 points to lead Central Kings while Nolan Ogden added 11.
Three Oaks led 52-36 at halftime.
The players of the game were Rossiter and McLean.

Wolverines 89
Team Two Axemen 45

Chris Ramsay’s 30-point performance paced the Wolverines, who received 20 points from Jack Hackett and 13 from Nathan Smith.
Will Somers (11), Connor Lilly (10) and Drake Blacquiere (6) were the top point-getters for the Axemen.
Westisle built a 41-23 advantage at the half.
Ramsay and the Axemen’s Nathan Enman were chosen as the players of the game.

Colonels 63
Bobcats 60

Ian Kerr’s 22 points led the Colonels to a close victory over the Bobcats.
Jeremy Norman (15) and Patrick Muise (9) were the Colonels’ other top scorers while Nick Mills (17), Thomas Yeo (16) and Brady Rodd (16) had big offensive performances for the Bobcats.
Colonel Gray took a 31-29 advantage into the intermission.
