ALBERTON, P.E.I. - The Western Regals’ five, third-period goals proved to be gravy in a 10-2 thumping of the Moncton Hawks in midget AAA interlocking action Sunday in Alberton.
Kalim DesRoches netted a hat trick and tossed in an assist in the Regals win, while Carter Cahill chipped in two goals.
Western led 5-2 after two periods thanks to goals from Austin Callaghan (1-1), Alex Hutchinson (1-1), DesRoches, Ethan Oliver (1-1) and Cahill. Jacob Hogan and Chase Gaudette (1-2) tallied the other Western markers. Chandler DesRoches and Thomas Rennie each added three assists.
William Killiam and Thomas Johnson had the Hawks goals.
Cole Gallant earned the goaltending win over Lucas Burrows.
Western was 3-for-5 on the power play, while Moncton went 0-for-3 with the extra man.
