It has now been a year since the Toronto Raptors — in very un-Raptor-like fashion — took Game 1 of the NBA Finals over the Golden State Warriors. The 118-109 victory ended up being the second-highest scoring game of the series for both teams.
The atmosphere was electric in Toronto, with the basketball world converging on Canada really for the first time (though the 2016 all-star game was close).
Pascal Siakam would go on to be named the NBA’s most improved player and had many massive outing in 2018-19, but what he did in this one was right up there with any of them. With both all-stars Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry struggling mightily with their jump shots, Siakam lifted them, hitting 14 of 17 attempts for 32 points. One-time Toronto resident Stephen Curry had 34 for the Warriors.
Marc Gasol and Fred VanVleet also had excellent games for the Raptors.
