(Reuters) - The United States will begin their quest for a 19th Fed Cup title when they take on Latvia on Feb. 7-8 next year after the draw was held at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) office in London.

Great Britain will travel to Slovakia while Romania, led by Wimbledon champion Simona Halep, host Russia. Belarus, the 2017 finalists, play away at the Netherlands while Switzerland host Canada for the fifth time.

"Today's draw is the start of a new chapter for Fed Cup... and it's very exciting that 20 teams will begin next season with the chance to be crowned Fed Cup champions," ITF President David Haggerty said in a statement.

The eight nations that qualify will compete in the finals in Budapest from April 14-19 alongside this year's finalists -- Australia and France -- hosts Hungary, and 11-times champions Czech Republic who were handed a wildcard on Wednesday.

The other eight losing nations will compete in the Fed Cup playoffs that will be held in the same week as the finals.

Teams will play four singles matches and one doubles match in the qualifiers.
