CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The UPEI Panthers outscored the Saint Mary’s Huskies 16-1 in the opening quarter but had to come back in the fourth to win 57-53 Saturday in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball action.

The Panthers led 29-17 at the half but trailed 40-38 heading to the fourth.

Karla Yepez had a team-high 14 points to go with eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks while Jenna Mae Ellsworth had 12 points and Reese Baxendale 11. Carolina Del Santo had a team-high 13 rebounds.

Arianna Macias led the Huskies with 12 points and nine rebounds while Estelle Eduardo added 11 points.

The Huskies went 20-for-22 (91 per cent) at the free-throw line while the Panthers went 14-for-22 (64 per cent).

UPEI improved to 5-1 while Saint Mary’s is 0-6. UPEI is in Fredericton, N.B., to play the UNB Varsity Reds on Saturday, Nov. 24 in the final game of the first semester.
