UPEI fall sports schedules announced

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Lewis Page will make his return to the sidelines with the UPEI Panthers women’s soccer team on Friday, Sept. 11.

Atlantic University Sport (AUS) announced its fall sports schedule on Monday.

It has the UPEI soccer teams hosting St. FX in the opener on Friday, Sept. 11, with games at 5 p.m. (women) and 7:15 (men).

Page, who has been the head coach of the men’s team since 2000, coach both programs in 2013. He reassumed both roles in January. He previously was the head coach of the women’s team in 1996-97.

He takes over for Glen Miller, who coached the Panthers in 2019.

The 10 AUS men’s and women’s teams each play a 12-game regular season with the top six making the playoffs, which will be hosted by Cape Breton University (CBU), Nov. 5-8, in Sydney, N.S. CBU will host the U Sports national women’s championship Nov. 12-15, while Carleton University plays host to the men’s tournament in Ottawa.

Rugby

The Panthers women’s rugby team opens the season by hosting the defending conference champion St. FX X-Women on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m.

Each of the conference’s four teams plays six games with the top three teams advancing to the post-season.

Queen’s is hosting the nationals this year in Kingston, Ont.

Cross Country

The cross country teams will open up their season with the St. FX invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19, in Antigonish, N.S.

There will also be an event in in Wolfville, N.S., and Fredericton, N.B., in October before the conference championships take place Oct. 31 in Moncton. The nationals are set for Nov. 14 in Quebec City.

Football

Each of the conference’s five teams will play eight regular season games during the 10-week schedule.

Opening day is set for Saturday, Aug. 29, while the semifinal will take place Nov. 7.

The Loney Bowl takes place Saturday, Nov. 14, with the winner advancing to Mitchell Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 21. The Vanier Cup will take place Saturday, Nov. 28, but the host city has not been announced.
