SUMMERSIDE – Triathlon P.E.I. has announced the Atlantic triathlon championships in the sprint and standard events will take place in Summerside on Aug. 19.
Swimmers, cyclists and runners will go through their paces in the fourth annual Subaru Charlottetown Tri-Lobster triathlon.
“Not only will it be an opportunity for serious triathletes to earn a qualifying spot for the worlds, or to win an Atlantic championship, it is a chance for athletes of all ages and abilities to participate in what will be a great event,” said race director Marian Grant. “We have worked hard to put this together with the City of Summerside, and we will be ready to host many of the finest triathletes in the region and beyond.”

Qualifying event
The Tri-Lobster triathlon is an official 2018 age-group world championship qualifying event for the 2019 ITU world triathlon final in Lausanne, Switzerland, in sprint and standard. The Summerside event is also an official 2018 age-group world championship qualifying event for the 2019 ITU multisport world championships festival in Spain for the sprint duathlon, standard duathlon, aquabike and aquathon.

Options
Along with the featured regular events – super sprint, sprint and standard triathlon – there are other options for participants. For example, non-swimmers can sign up for duathlon (run/bike/run). Athletes who do not bike can try aquathon (swim/run) and non-runners can register for aquabike (swim/bike).
For athletes who do not want to race alone, there will be a team event as well as a kids triathlon – ages 5 to 12 – following the adult event.
All event and registration details can be found at www.tripei.com.
