Storm splits in St. John’s, N.L.

White, Boucard, Robinson lead Island squad in weekend contests

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Island Storm split a pair of weekend games with the Edge in St. John’s, N.L.

The Storm won 128-103 Saturday before losing 121-116 in overtime on Sunday.

St. John’s improved to 21-19 while the Storm is 11-26.

Murphy Burnatowski led the Edge with 34 points to go with 10 rebounds on Sunday while Shaquille Keith chipped in 20 points to with team highs of 12 rebounds and six assists. Former Storm forward Russell Byrd scored 19 points while Jared Nickens chipped in 18.

Tyree White led the Storm with 34 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Robbie Robinson had 28 points and 11 rebounds while Guillaume Boucard chipped in 24 points and 10 boards.

The Edge led 32-31 after the first quarter, 60-54 at the half and 92-80 heading to the fourth before being outscored 29-17 in the final 12 minutes of regulation. Robinson missed a jumper with one second to go in the fourth quarter.

On Saturday, the Storm held 28-23, 58-48 and 97-72 quarter leads.

Boucard had 30 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals to pace the attack while White had 13 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Robinson and Malik Story each had big games off the bench for the Storm. Robinson had 30 points and eight rebounds while Story scored 22 points on the strength of 6-for-11 shooting from beyond the three-point line, where the Storm connected on 44 per cent of its 39 trey attempts.

Keith had 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for the Edge in front of 5,045 fans.

The Storm hit 21 of its 23 free throws.

The Storm, which has already been eliminated from the post-season hunt, plays the Hurricanes Thursday in Halifax before wrapping up the season with home games Saturday against the Cape Breton Highlanders at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Saint John Riptide.
