CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Five Island skaters were named to Team P.E.I. set to compete at the Canada East short track championships Saturday and Sunday in Campbellton, N.B.

The squad includes Jane Bruce, who has won two gold and two silver medal in events this season skating in the 11-year-old girls division, Canada Winter Games athletes Carter Bruce and William Lyons (15-year-old boys category), and Zack O’Meara and Alex Rogers, both from Charlottetown, skating in the 12-year-old boys division.

Sarah Taylor makes her fifth trip to Canada East as coach of the P.E.I. squad.

The 1,500 and 200-metre events go Saturday, followed by 400, 2,000 and 3,000-metre points races on Sunday. Island skaters are also pencilled into relay events as members of inter-provincial teams.

The event includes more than 120 athletes from Ontario, Quebec, Nunavut and the Atlantic Provinces.
