Francois Buote wins intermediate A boys' championship
CHARLOTTETOWN – A three-goal second half sent the Stonepark Tigers to the P.E.I. School Athletic Association Intermediate AA Boys Soccer League title on Thursday.
After a scoreless first half of the gold-medal game, Keegan Callaghan, Iz Hutunjinana and Isaac Vos scored to send the host Tigers to a 3-0 win over Queen Charlotte.
Cameron Jenkins recorded the clean sheet.
Also at Stonepark on Thursday, Birchwood blanked Queen Charlotte 2-0 in the intermediate AA girls’ bronze-medal game, and Francois Buote won 4-1 over Montague to claim the gold medal in the PEISAA Intermediate A Boys Soccer League.
Chloe Campbell (21st minute) and Tessa Dodds (43rd minute) scored for Birchwood, which received shutout goaltending from Kate MacDonald.
Caleb Gagne scored in the 17th and 18th minutes to stake Francois Buote to an early 2-0 lead. Sam Shaw got Montague back in the game in the 36th minute, but Jeremie Boutilier answered with insurance goals for Francois Buote in the 38th and 65th minutes.
Winning keeper was Caleb Green.
The intermediate soccer medal games that were scheduled to be played in Summerside on Thursday were postponed due to the field conditions and snow. Those games will now be played on Monday. Following is the schedule:
At Eric Johnston Field:
2 p.m. – AA girls’ gold: Kensington vs. Summerside Intermediate School (SIS).
2 p.m. – AA boys’ bronze: Hernewood vs. SIS.
4 p.m. – A boys’ bronze: Evangeline vs. M.E. Callaghan.
At Three Oaks:
4 p.m. – A girls’ gold: Souris vs. Hernewood.
4 p.m. – A girls’ bronze: Morell vs. Athena.
