Kelly, Gagne score late goals vs. Stonepark

CHARLOTTETOWN – Francois Buote proved a game is not over until it’s over on Thursday.
Ethan Kelly and Caleb Gagne scored late in the second half to lift Francois Buote to a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the host Stonepark Tigers in an all-Charlottetown championship game of the P.E.I. School Athletic Association Intermediate A Soccer League.
Brady Benoit’s early goal gave Stonepark a 1-0 lead.
In the bronze-medal games, the Evangeline boys pulled out a thrilling 2-1 win over the Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School Torchmen in penalty kicks.
Thomas Arsenault scored early for Evangeline, but Duncan Picketts pulled Kensington even in the 53rd minute.
The teams battled through a pair of scoreless 10-minute overtime periods before Evangeline prevailed in penalty kicks as keeper Brent Arsenault did not allow a goal on three shots to clinch the victory and bronze medal.
Montague pulled out a hard-fought 2-0 win over Englewood in the girls’ bronze-medal match.
Alexa Carpenter opened the scoring in a closely-contested first half. The teams battled throughout the rest of the game as Englewood pushed until the end, but Carpenter netted her second to put the game out of reach.
Maddie Hogan recorded the shutout. Carla Stewart played a strong game in goal for Englewood.
