CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - It’s a hockey palooza this weekend as six Island teams join 50 other squads in showcasing their skills at the annual Monctonian AAA hockey tournament Thursday through Sunday in Moncton, N.B.
The Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride and the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild from the N.B.-P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League lace up the skates beginning Thursday versus the Valley Wildcats and College St-Hillaire, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Prince County Warriors, Mid-Isle Matrix, Central Attack and Eastern Express from the P.E.I. Bantam AAA Hockey League also get underway Thursday. Those teams face the Cole Harbour Storm, Moncton Hawks, Dartmouth Whalers and Bedford Barons, respectively.
Those two league’s regular seasons are on hold until after the event. The major midgets restart Friday, Nov. 23, while P.E.I. bantams resume Thursday, Nov. 22.
It’s the 38th year for the showcase. Hockey scouts from across the country will be in the stands. This year the tourney features 56 midget and bantam AAA teams from Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, P.E.I., New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Games from the the Superior Propane Centre and the Moncton Coliseum will be streamed live online.
