Saints, King’s-Edgehill split exhibition games

Both outcomes come right down to the wire

SLEMON PARK – The Mount Academy Saints and King’s-Edgehill from Windsor, N.S., provided fans with exciting finishes in a pair of exhibition hockey games at The Plex over the weekend.
The Charlottetown-based Saints prevailed 3-2 in a shootout in the first game on Friday, and King’s-Edgehill scored a power-play goal as time expired for a 3-2 victory on Saturday.
Next up for the Saints, who compete in the Under-16 Division of the Junior Women’s Hockey League, is a tournament in Buffalo, N.Y., later this month.

Chloe Hawes scored the shootout winner after tying the game at 8:05 of the third period. Abby Hustler also scored as all three Mount Academy goals were unassisted.
Ava Benedict and Jenna Leighton found the back of the net for King’s-Edgehill.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first and second periods.
Hannah LeClair earned the goaltending win. Maggie Baxter was in goal for King’s-Edgehill, which held a 19-13 shots-on-goal advantage.

Leighton banged home a rebound as the clock wound down to earn King’s-Edgehill a split in the two games. Abby Wamboldt and Radka Sevcik netted the other King’s-Edgehill goals.
Hustler scored both goals for the Saints, with assists credited to Hawes, Sophie Bujold and Ally Stymiest.

The Saints led 1-0 after the opening frame, and the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the second period.
Baxter was the goaltender of record for King’s-Edgehill. Frankie Hancock was between the pipes for the Saints. The final shots-on-goal totals were 22-21 in favour of King’s-Edgehill.
