BOISBRIAND, QUE. – Prince Edward Island dropped its two games on the first day of the Gatorade Excellence Challenge Thursday in Boisbriand, Que.

The event is put on by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as an opportunity to scout players for the upcoming draft.

P.E.I. opened play with a 6-0 loss to Quebec Blue before losing a 5-2 decision to New Brunswick in a game that was 3-2 with 7:20 to play.

Marc Richard on the power play and Riley MacDougall scored for P.E.I. against New Brunswick. Cole Larkin had two assists while singles went to Isaac Wilson and Keiran Gallant.

Matt Jelley made 32 saves against New Brunswick.

New Brunswick held 1-0 and 3-1 period leads.

Quebec Blue, which led 1-0 after the first period and 4-0 heading to the third, outshot P.E.I. 48-10. Chad Arsenault made 42 saves for the Island squad.

P.E.I. plays Newfoundland and Labrador today at 11 a.m. Atlantic. There are provincial teams from each of the four Atlantic provinces and two from Quebec.
