Waters leads Capers to quarter-final win over Calgary; Cape Breton falls to Toronto at women's nationals

SYDNEY, N.S. — Charlie Waters continued his strong performance on the pitch on Thursday, scoring three times to lead the Cape Breton Capers to a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Dinos in U Sports soccer championship quarter-final action at CEPSUM Stadium.

Cory Bent also found the back of the net for the Capers in the game.

Decklin Mahmi had the lone goal for the Dinos.

Ben Jackson picked up the win for Cape Breton. Jake Ruschkowski was tagged with the loss for Calgary. Statistics were not available.

Cape Breton played Montreal in the semifinal at 8 p.m. Atlantic Time on Friday.

In women's action, the Cape Breton Capers were blanked 3-0 by the Toronto Varsity Blues in the U Sports soccer championship quarter-finals at Centennial Stadium in Victoria, B.C., on Thursday.

Jenny Wolever, Miranda Badovinac and Erin Kelly each fired home goals for the Varsity Blues.

Levana Staggolis was the winning keeper for Toronto. Rachel Yerxa suffered the loss for Cape Breton.

The Capers played the host Victoria in the consolation semifinal at 8 p.m. Atlantic Time on Friday night.
