Rain, wind and sloppy track conditions could not stop Southwind Ricardo, who stepped to his second straight win in 2:00.4, highlighting a seven-dash card of harness racing Saturday afternoon at Northside Downs.
Harold LeBlanc Jr. sent Southwind Ricardo to the lead from the outset, and the seven-year-old gelding led the field of six all the way to record his sixth win on the season and 36th lifetime for owners Harold and Joel Leblanc, Willie Seymour and Bernie Gillis.
Kevin Bailey led all drivers on the day with a pair of wins.
Bailey opened the program by driving his own two-year-old colt Elm Grover Preacher to his first career victory in 2:08.2 over Keeperoftherealm and The Fascinator. Bailey followed that win by rallying longshot Spud Island Lucas from 7th at the half to win 2:08.3, returning $137.60 to win. Bailey also owns and trains the six-year-old.
Other winners on the afternoon included Cowboy Gilles for Adam Lynk and owner Geoffrey Lynch in 2:05.2, Red Rum She Wrote for Barry Bates in 2:05.2, Dusty Lane Royal for Ryan Campbell and owner Leonard MacLellan in 2:06.1, and Diduseethat for owner and driver Jamie Struthers in 2:08.2, over In Land Beach and The Captain Jack.
Fans wagered $8,809 on the day.
