Redmen eliminate Wildcats from high school hockey playoffs

MEMBERTOU — The Riverview Redmen are heading to the Cape Breton High School Hockey League championship series.

The Redmen defeated the Sydney Academy Wildcats 4-1 in Game 3 of their best-of-five semifinal to sweep the series 3-0.

Owen Burke, Nathaniel Fuller, Sam MacKinnon and AJ Ley each scored goals for the Redmen.

Dante Basque had the lone goal for the Wildcats.

Riverview's Michael MacMullen made 19 saves. Sydney Academy's Daniel MacGillivary stopped 21 of 25 shots.

The game marked the final high school contest for seven of the Wildcats players who will be graduating in June. The players include Justin Thistle, Zach Conn, Connor MacLeod, Ashten Dawson, Carter Jacobs, Connor Campbell and Belle Jacobs.

Riverview will play the winner of the Glace Bay Panthers and Memorial Marauders. The best-of-five series is currently tied 1-1. Game 3 was scheduled for Wednesday night in New Waterford. The score was not available at press time, however, a game recap is available online at www.capebretonpost.com.
