SYDNEY, N.S. — It didn’t take long for Kody Quinn and Brooke Dowe to find their mid-season form on the track as the racers led the way with three feature wins each to open the 2020 season at Sydney Speedway on Saturday.
Quinn, a Sydney native, picked up a pair of wins in the Ramsay’s Honda Mini Stock class with the No. 88 car, while Dowe, a Bedford product, swept the three Bandoleros class races.
Quinn battled in both mini features with stock car racing veteran Dave Timmons of Inverness, edging Timmons out for victories on both occasions. He also took the first race in the Colbourne Auto Group Legends class, with features two and three going to Braden Langille of Shubenacadie.
In the Late Model Sportsman class, Shawn Waterfield of Sydney took the checkered flag in the first of two features on the afternoon. Ryan VanOirschot of Antigonish captured his first win in the class in the second feature with the No. 25 car.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event was run with only 250 people permitted at the facility and the grandstands remained closed for the weekend. A single-camera live video stream was provided, and a video-on-demand copy of the event can be found at www.timscorner.tv.
Racing was scheduled for Sunday as well, however, it was cancelled due to persistent rain showers.
The next scheduled event for Sydney Speedway is Sept. 27 before the second annual Thanksgiving Thunder takes the spotlight from Oct. 9-11.
