SYDNEY, N.S. — A former Cape Breton Oiler will be back behind the bench for the 2020-21 season.
Marko Tuomainen will return as an assistant coach with KalPa of the Liiga. The Finland native has been an assistant coach with the team for the past three years.
The 48-year-old played one season in Cape Breton, recording 25 goals and 60 points in 58 games during the 1995-96 season.
Following his time with the Oilers, Tuomainen went on to play four seasons in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings and New York Islanders. He later played hockey in Europe.
He captured two World Hockey Championship silver medals (1998 and 1999) and one bronze medal (2000).
