SYDNEY, N.S. — A former Cape Breton Eagle training camp invite has been named the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s top defenceman for October and November.
Matthew MacKay of the Grand Falls Rapids was given the honour after posting six goals and seven assists for 13 points in nine games since the start of the season in late October.
The now 20-year-old was invited to attend the Eagles training camp in 2019. He was later released from camp and has been with the Rapids since.
Kaleb Boudreau of the Yarmouth Mariners was an honourable mention for the award.
Joshua Nadeau of the Edmundston Blizzard was named the league’s top forward, while Justin Sumarah of the Mariners was given the top goaltender honours.
