SYDNEY, N.S. — Egor Sokolov received a warm welcome when he returned to Cape Breton after participating in the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship with Team Russia.
Sokolov, who won a silver medal at the international junior event, rejoined the Cape Breton Eagles last Wednesday in Saint John, N.B.
On Monday, Cape Breton Regional Municipality Mayor Cecil Clarke proclaimed Jan. 13 as Egor Sokolov Day in CBRM.
In seven games with the Russians, the 19-year-old Sokolov had three goals and one assist. He was also named the player of the game in Russia's semifinal victory over Sweden.
Sokolov has 29 goals and 29 assists in 33 games for the Eagles this season.
