The St. John’s Edge fell behind early and could never catch up as they lost 101-86 to the KW Titans in National Basketball League of Canada action Thursday night in Kitchener, Ont.
The Edge trailed 35-18 after the first quarter and couldn’t make up the difference the rest of the way as they concluded a four-game Ontario trip.
St. John’s (9-7) won the first three games of the trek, but won’t have much time to dwell on what has to be seen as a successful trip; after flying back to Newfoundland today, they play back-to-back home games against the Island Storm at Mile One Centre Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
By the time the Edge have played Sunday’s game — which will see the team honouring retired star guard Carl English — they will have played four games in less than five days, with considerable travel involved.
On Thursday before an announced crowd of just under a 1,000 at the Kitchener Aud, Ryan Richardson led St, John’s with 15 points, while Junior Cadougan, Ahmad Thomas and Tyrone Watson all had 13 points.
Montay Brandon grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds, but scored just three points for the Edge, ending his string of five straight games with double-doubles.
Ed Horton led all players, delivering 19 points for the Titans (6-12), who have won two straight.
