The Halifax Mooseheads are suspending operations after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.
The employee was not in contact with any players or members of the hockey staff but the team announced it is shutting down temporarily anyway out of "an extreme abundance of caution."
Public Healthy officials did not recommend the team take any further action, although players and staff will all self-monitor for now. Members of the organization who were in contact with the infected employee are all being tested.
The team's home game against the Charlottetown Islanders on Saturday, as well as Wednesday's game against the Cape Breton Eagles at the Scotiabank Centre have both been postponed.
The affected staff member was not at the arena during Friday's game against the Bathurst Titan.
"We're just being extremely cautious right now," Mooseheads general manager Cam Russell said. "It wasn't Public Health telling us to postpone the game, it was just us being cautious. We just don't want to fool around with this so we'll self-monitor for the next 48 hours and listen to Public Health for their direction."
