Eastern Express atop league standings after first weekend of play

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Ethan Dickson had a five-point afternoon Saturday to pace the Prince County Warriors to victory.

The recently turned 14-year-old centre from Kensington had two goals and three assists as the visitors defeated the Central Attack 8-0 in P.E.I. Major Under-15 AAA Hockey League action.

The Warriors scored four goals in each of the first and third periods at MacLauchlan Arena.

Lincoln Waugh scored twice in the victory while Isaac Arsenault had a goal and an assist. Carson Griffin, Jordan Shaw and Tyson Wedge rounded out the scoring. Eddy Doyle had two assists while singles went to Kordell Ramsay, George Gallant and Will Murphy.

Gallant made 20 saves for the shutout while Noah Carver was peppered with 53 shots in the Central crease.

Prince County was 2-for-4 on the power play and killed all five of Central’s chances with the man advantage.

The Warriors improved to 1-1-0 while the Attack take an 0-2-0 record into Sunday’s contest with the Mid-Isle Matrix, who was playing their first game of the season. Game time is 4:40 p.m. in Crapaud.

The Warriors lost their first game of the campaign, 7-2 to the Eastern Express Friday in O’Leary.

Mason Power led the way with a goal and two assists for Eastern while Matthew MacLean and Ross Campbell each had a goal and a helper.

Alexander Keus, Carson MacKenzie, Cayle Coffin and Owen MacPherson also scored in the victory as Eastern improved to a league-leading 2-0-0. Evan Nicholson and Austin Walker each had two assists while Justin Smith, Logan Gregory and Dawson Sharkey all had one.

Griffin and Dickson each had a goal and assist for Prince County while Ashton Brown had a helper.

Jackson MacDonald made 24 stops for the win. Cole Echlin allowed six goals on 40 shots in 48 minutes for Prince County. Gallant stopped 10 of 11 shots he faced.

Eastern held 3-0 and 6-2 period leads.
