ELMSDALE, P.E.I. — A first-year lifter on the Westisle Composite High School powerlifting team has been named his school’s Greco Pizza/Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month.

That honour has gone to Alec Griffin.
The Grade 11 student is the 17-year-old son of Jordan and Cindy Griffin of Brockton. Coach George Kinch said Alec, who also plays rugby for Westisle, progressed throughout the year and really came on strong in winning his weight class at provincials. His contributions helped Westisle retain the provincial powerlifting team title.
Kinch suggested Griffin’s natural strength and growing up on a farm helped him push through.
“He improved immensely over the year,” said Kinch. “I can see him being one of the top powerlifters in P.E.I. next year.”
Griffin’s plans for after high school have not been finalized.
