Rhys Hoskins smacked a go-ahead single in the 15th inning, Roman Quinn hit his first homer of the season, and the visiting Philadelphia Phillies edged the Detroit Tigers 3-2 on Tuesday.
Scott Kingery opened the 15th against Daniel Stumpf (1-1) with a triple off the right field wall. Hoskins followed with a single to right.
Jose Alvarez (1-2) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to get the victory.
Nicholas Castellanos had two hits and an RBI for Detroit, while Harold Castro scored both Tigers' runs.
With numerous scouts in the stands, Tigers starter and prime trade candidate Matthew Boyd gave up fewer than three earned runs for the first time in nine starts. Quinn's two-run homer brought home the only runs Boyd allowed in six innings. He gave up five hits and walked two, while striking out eight.
Philadelphia ace Aaron Nola gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits in seven innings. He struck out seven with only one walk but also hit three batters.
The Tigers scored a run in the first without a hit. Castro reached on a two-base error by shortstop Kingery. Miguel Cabrera was hit by a pitch, and Castellanos hit into a fielder's choice as Castro advanced to third. Castro then scored on a wild pitch.
The Phillies took the lead in the next inning. Adam Haseley reached on a one-out infield hit, and Quinn then golfed a two-run shot over the left field wall.
Philadelphia threatened in the sixth but Boyd held firm.
Bryce Harper reached on an error and advanced on a J.T. Realmuto single. An error by left fielder Christin Stewart allowed both runners to advance to scoring position. After a popup, Boyd issued an intentional walk. He then retired Haseley on a foul out and Quinn on a popup.
The Tigers tied it in the bottom of the inning on doubles by Castro and Castellanos.
Detroit nearly won it in the 14th. Castellanos led off the inning with a double, and he tried to score from second on a Brandon Dixon single but was thrown out by left fielder Brad Miller.
