MONCTON, N.B. – The Summerside United capped a perfect weekend in impressive style.

The United went undefeated – winning all five games in impressive fashion while outscoring their opposition 21-1 – en route to claiming the Under-18 Premier Division of the Codiac First Touch FC annual soccer tournament on Sunday afternoon.
“Our girls played exceptionally well this weekend,” said United coach Michelle Johnson. “We met our goals of maintaining possession of the ball for the majority of each game, moving the ball fluidly throughout the whole field, winning 50/50 balls and starting our attacks from the back.
“Every team member contributed a huge effort to the tournament win.”

Final
After blanking Central from Nova Scotia 5-0 in the semifinals, the United made it back-to-back 5-0 victories with a decision over Oromocto, N.B., in the championship game.
Heidi Lauwerijssen scored a hat trick to lead Summerside in the final, and keeper Kyrsten Coyle registered her third clean sheet and fourth win of the weekend.
Hilarie Gaudet and Abby Christopher also scored for Summerside.
Against Central, Lauwerijssen scored her second of three hat tricks in the tournament while Gaudet and Carly MacKenzie contributed single markers. Coyle earned the shutout.

Round robin
The United opened round-robin play with a 4-0 decision over the Storm from Dartmouth, N.S.
Gaudet (2), Lauwerijssen and Julia Smith scored for the United. That proved to be more than enough offence for Coyle, who registered her first shutout of the weekend.
Lauwerijssen accounted for all three United goals in a 3-1 win over Oromocto in Game 2. Coyle was the winning keeper.
Summerside then improved to 3-0 (won-lost) with a 4-0 triumph over Hampton, N.B., behind the shutout goaltending of Ameilia Murphy, a call-up from the Summerside United under-13 Premier Division team.
