Canada wraps up the round robin portion of the World Baseball Softball Confederations men’s softball world championship in Prague, Czech Republic today, with first place in their pool already in the bag.

Canada, with St. Lawrence P.EI. native Jeff Ellsworth on its roster, goes into today’s 11:30 a.m. (AST) against South Africa (1-5) with a 6-0 record. Ellsworth has a run and two hits in seven at-bats so far in the 16-team tournament.

The Canadians got their sixth victory Wednesday, 8-0 over Singapore in a game called after five innings on the mercy rule. Sean Cleary and Patrick Burns shared a no-hitter.

The only country with the potential of catching the Canadians in the standings is Australia (5-1) but Canada has already beaten them in round robin play.

Japan leads Pool A with a 6-0 summary.

Canada, the Pool B leaders, will play a quarter-final Friday at 2:30 pm. (AST) against Pool A’s fourth place team.
