P.E.I. judo athletes win medals at Elite national championships

Hetherington, Madumba, Thomas have strong performances

SUMMERSIDE – P.E.I.’s three athletes at Judo Canada’s Elite national championships all returned home with medals.

George Madumba of the Summerside Toshidokan Judo Club won silver for the second year in a row. Madumba posted a 3-1 (won-lost) record while competing in the under-18 -90-kilogram class.
RJ Hetherington of the Rikidokan Judo Club in Charlottetown also earned a silver medal while competing in under-18 as an under-16 athlete. Hetherington went 2-1 in the -46-kilogram group.
Alicia Thomas of the Lennox Island Judo Club claimed a bronze medal in the under-18 +70-kilogram category after winning two of her three bouts.
The invitation-only competition was held in Montreal.
