HALIFAX, N.S. – Kameron Kielly scored the winner Friday as the UPEI Panthers defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 3-2 in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action in Halifax.
Four of the five goals were scored on the power play. Both teams were 2-for-7.
Riley Whittingham and Chad Labelle also scored for UPEI while Sam Aulie had two assists and singles went to Nick Shumlanski, Brent Andrews, Austin Levi and Beau McCue.
Aaron Berisha and former Charlottetown Islanders forward Jake Coughler scored on the power play for Saint Mary’s, who suffered its first loss of the season. Alexander Peters, Calder Brooks, Nick Welsh and Hunter Garlent had helpers.
Simon Hofley made 41 saves in the win while Eric Brassard, another former Isles player, stopped 21 shots in the loss.
Saint Mary’s led 1-0 after the first period but trailed 2-1 heading to the third.
UPEI improved to 2-3-0 while Saint Mary’s is 5-1-0. The Panthers travel to Wolfville, N.S., Saturday to play the Acadia Axemen (2-3-0) at 7 p.m.
