ANTIGONISH, N.S. — Mercy Myles opened the scoring in the 69th minute and it turned out to be the winner Friday as the host St. FX X-Women defeated the UPEI Panthers 2-0 in Atlantic University Sport women’s soccer action.
The Panthers scored an own goal five minutes later to account for the other marker in the first game of the season for both squads.
Christina Gentile made one save for the shutout in Antigonish, N.S., while Amanda Stanyer stopped seven shots in the loss. St. FX held a 17-2 shots towards goal advantage.
St. FX hosts UNB on Sunday while the Panthers travel to Sydney, N.S., to play the high-powered Cape Breton Capers at 3 p.m.
