CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Holland College Hurricanes have added a shooter from New Brunswick to its roster for the upcoming men’s basketball season.

Lucas Tompkins, a six-foot shooting guard, was Woodstock High School’s male athlete of the year for four years from 2016-19.

“Lucas brings a variety of skills to our lineup and will be counted on to contribute right away,” Hurricanes head coach Josh Whitty said. “He’s a top-notch shooter, has a tireless work ethic and has a good sense of the game.”

Tompkins has been a member of the under-15, under-16 and under-17 provincial teams. He led the 2018 under-17 Canadian championships in three-pointers.

“A strong work ethic is something I will bring to the team next season, as well as my basketball IQ, playmaking and the ability to shoot the ball well,” he said.

The Woodstock native decided on Holland College because of the strength of the basketball team and a chance to study in the sport and leisure management program.

“Both seem like a great fit for me.”

Tompkins joins point guard Logan MacCallum and shooting guard Will Vidito, both of Charlottetown Rural, as part of this year’s incoming class to Holland College.

The Hurricanes are the seven-time defending Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) champions and has won a silver and three bronze medals at the nationals.
