CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Jenna Mae Ellsworth had 24 points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists to lead the UPEI Panthers to a 77-59 victory over the UNB Varsity Reds Saturday in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s basketball action.
Jane McLaughlin had 14 points and seven rebounds while Karla Yepez scored 12 points for the home side. Centre Carolina Del Santo had 13 rebounds, eight points, four assists, three steals and three blocks.
Mikaela Dodig had 12 points for the Reds while Ja’Yon Leak chipped in 10.
UPEI held quarter leads of 26-13, 48-26 and 62-42. The Panthers connected on 53.4 per cent (31-for-58) of their field goals. It was the Panthers Shoot For The Cure game to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
UPEI improved to 13-2 and are two points up on Acadia (12-3) for first place in the AUS while UNB (9-7) is fourth.
The Panthers travel to Halifax on Sunday, Feb. 10, for a 1 p.m. game with the Dalhousie Tigers.
