CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The veterans led the way Friday as the UPEI Panthers men’s soccer squad won their home opener.

Fourth-year striker Mohammad Jaber scored in the 29th minute against the Acadia Axemen but the lead lasted only 10 minutes before Alec MacKenzie tied it.

Fifth-year wing Sam Smiley from Jaber scored the winner late in the game as the Panthers improved to 1-2-0. Acadia dropped to 1-1-0.

Fifth-year keeper Brett Strba made two saves for the victory while Andrew Nutt stopped three shots in the loss.

The Panthers head to Fredericton, N.B., Sunday to play the UNB Varsity Reds (1-1-0).
