SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside United opened the Subway P.E.I. Under-18 Girls Soccer League (Premier Division) playoffs on a winning note Tuesday night.
The United got by RC United 2-1 in a game that featured a weather delay at Eric Johnston Field.
Summerside took a 1-0 lead into halftime, and the teams than exchanged second-half markers.
Ellen Cole and Liz Mulligan found the back of the net for Summerside. Katie Timothy replied for RC United.
The United completed regular-season play in first place based on a 6-1-2 (won-lost-tied) record for 20 points, three more than the second-place Hillsborough United (5-2-2). RC United was fourth at 1-5-3.
Summerside’s next round-robin playoff game is also at Eric Johnston Field on Tuesday, Aug. 14. The third-place Winsloe/Charlottetown Royals (2-6-1) will provide the opposition in an 8 p.m. start. The Royals dropped their playoff opener to Hillsborough United 3-0 on Tuesday.
Under-13
In under-13 girls’ Premier Division action at Eric Johnston Field on Wednesday night, the Summerside United and Sherwood-Parkdale Rangers played to a scoreless draw.
Madelyn MacPherson of the United and the Rangers’ Kayla Batchilder registered the clean sheets.
