Toronto FC has acquired the Los Angeles Galaxy’s natural first-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft and the No. 2 MLS Allocation Ranking for 2019 in exchange for the No. 1 MLS Allocation Ranking for 2019.

The Galaxy subsequently announced they have utilized the No. 1 MLS Allocation Ranking to sign defender Giancarlo Gonzalez, which moves Toronto FC back into the No. 1 spot in the order.

Essentially, that means the Galaxy gave TFC their No.1 2020 draft pick for Toronto not to select Gonzalez, who played in two World Cups for his native Costa Rica.

The Galaxy signed Gonzalez from Bologna in Italy’s Serie A utilizing Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). The 31-year-old joins the LA Galaxy after playing in Italy’s top-flight division since 2014.

Orlando City was also involved in the deal.
