CORNWALL – Strong defensive play and timely scoring proved to be two keys for the Summerside United.
The United, who outscored their opposition 5-2 in four games, captured the Under-15 Premier Division of the Eliot River Ramblers all girls kickoff soccer tournament on Sunday. The United completed the three-day event at 3-1 (won-lost).
Championship game
In a closely-contested final, the United met RC United. A goal early in the first half by Summerside’s Brooke Blanchard opened the scoring. The score would remain 1-0 until Brinley Gallant added an insurance marker halfway through the second half as Summerside would go on to post a 2-0 victory.
That was more than offence for Summerside keeper Lauren Clark, who earned her second shutout of the tournament.
Pridham nets winner
In the United’s opening game, Clark earned registered another clean sheet while Ashlyn Pridham scored the winning goal in penalty kicks to give Summerside a 1-0 decision over Hillsborough United.
Summerside improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 victory over RC United.
Renee Silliker and Bri Hughes scored for Summerside, and Grace Connolly netted the RC United tally.
Summerside closed out round-robin play with a 1-0 loss to the Winsloe/Charlottetown Royals.
Clark also played both games against RC United and the Royals.
